The Giant Ice Age Mammals That Roamed Throughout The Greater KC Area and Beyond

During the Ice Age, giant mammals dominated the landscape of what is now Kansas City. Most became extinct about 10,000 years ago, and only some are represented today by descendants of diminutive size. This exhibit compares skeletal remains of the Ice Age giants with their modern day relatives. Visitors will learn about the giant ground sloth, woolly mammoth, mastodon, giant beaver and the saber-toothed cat — Ice Age giants of our KC area.
